Loneliness

I am late, so much to do,

But the stands and talks,

Slowly packing her bag,

Bit by bit into her little bag,

Her bread, her meal for one.

Slowly she does this, while I stand impatient,

Not thinking that this may be the only person she speaks to all day.

In January, 2018, the then UK Prime Minster, Teresa May, appointed the world’s first Minister for Loneliness, Tracey Crouch. May said “For far too many people, loneliness is the sad reality of modern life.”

In 2016, a commission lead to the late, Jo Cox, looked into how many people in the UK were feeling lonely and the impact of this loneliness. They found that 5% of people in the UK often or always felt lonely.
